Scouting BSA Troop(s) 87

2019:  With the introduction of Girl Troops in 2019 the former “Boy Scouts of America” is now known as “Scouting BSA”. Thanks to the strong leaders in our Troop we were early adopters of this change, and our church is now hosting two Scouting BSA Troops: 87-BT (Boys Troop) is up to 33 members, and our new 87-GT (Girls Troop) has six members! Pictured here are the charter members of Troop 87-GT on their first camp out.

Another banner event in 2019 was the long-awaited construction of a Troop shed and a new parking space for the trailer on the Welles land.  Here are some highlights of the shed build:

Our Scouts are a blessing, and they are always looking for big and small to give back to the church. This year they assisted with setup for the spring rummage sale, the setup and tear-down of the manger (which they donated last year), and at their own request they cleaned up brush and raked leaves around the church.

Background:

Our church has been the chartered organization for BSA Troop #87 since its founding by Rev. Marcy Punnett in 1965. Since then, Troop #87 has produced more than 40 Eagle Scouts and positively influenced countless others.

The objectives of Boy Scouting are to develop character, citizenship, and personal fitness. There is a strong spiritual component, and Boy Scouting is very much a part of the mission of our Church. We are one of many civic, faith-based, and educational organizations that operate Scouting units to deliver these programs to youth members, as well as the community at large.

How to Help:

If you wish to help but are unable to join or volunteer, the easiest way is to drop off your returnable bottles and cans in the recycling bin next to the clothing shed. Please deposit often, it really helps!
